4-5 Buckingham Gate

Situated in the prestigious enclave of St James’s Park, directly facing the gates of Buckingham Palace, 4-5 Buckingham Gate represents a profound architectural transformation. This mid-19th-century Victorian terrace has been reimagined as Casa Italia, a unified diplomatic and cultural headquarters that serves as a landmark symbol of Italy’s contemporary presence in London. The project is a masterclass in the "adaptive reuse" of heritage fabric, where the quiet power of a Grade II listed stucco façade now envelops 2,000 square metres of high-performance workspace.

The project’s aesthetic identity was defined by the sophisticated curatorial vision of interior designer Nick Vinson, who conceived the building as a declarative showcase for Italian excellence.

In this context, Sabbadin Corti was appointed as the Technical Advisor and Executive Consultant (Supporto al RUP) for the Embassy of Italy. Our role throughout the development from Stage 3 through to completion at Stage 6 was to provide expert technical guardianship and strategic oversight. We acted as the bridge between the high-level design intent and its practical execution, advising the Embassy on the complex integration of cutting-edge industrial design within a sensitive historic shell. By overseeing the technical transition, we ensured that every contemporary intervention respected the building’s structural heritage while strictly adhering to 21st-century environmental and regulatory standards.
